Vauhkiksen Muistoajot

In August we lost a great friend, a true cycling enthusiast who lived and breathed cycling. Marko Vauhkonen (29.10.1965 - 8.8.2015) dedicated his life to cycling and he was a tireless worker. Marko had a goal that he worked especially hard to achieve. That was to lift the Finnish cycling to where it should be, and Fincycling was one of the projects Marko spent a lot of time and effort on. The work Marko started will continue to live on and the positive attitude to life and the fighting spirit he had will be remembered. One wish Marko had was that a charity ride would be organized in his name, where one half of the donations would go to leukemia research and the other half would go directly to support the Finnish junior cyclists. During last week these events were organized throughout Finland and I'm sure Marko would have been proud to see the so many riders participate.

I myself participated in the ride that took place on Wednesday 9th of September in Turku. We were some 40 riders and we had the perfect weather for a nice ride for a good cause. Other events were organized by local cycling clubs and you can read about them on the Fincycling facebook page. Iltasanomat and Uusimaa also wrote about the events. Below pictures from Vauhkiksen Muistoajot in Turku. A big thanks goes to all who made these events possible!
