Looking back at my cycling season 2018 so far

It's actually great writing this seldom. Well I kind of feel bad about it, but also thinking about my last post in the beginning of February, summing up January feels like ages ago. Back then, even spring seemed far away, and now we've already put behind the midsummer celebrations.

So I wrote I had the best January comparing time spent in the saddle. I was eager to keep on riding, being afraid I would lose it at some point. But writing this now, at the end of June, I can look back and realize I've been doing okay. I haven't been able to track record-hours, but I've been pretty consistent. One of the most important reasons was the fact, that I was able to track some 20 hours in Italy in March. I see I haven't been summing up that yet, so will try to wrap it up in the upcoming weeks (that's not a promise). I'm still on track with my 350 hour goal, but that will mean I need to ramp up a bit during July and August. June has not been the easiest of months, but it seems I will be ending June with decent hours.

Without further ado, I will try to recap the spring and early summer in pictures.

Thanks to a trip to Marche in March, I was able to get back on track with hours in the saddle. Those hills, the landscapes just reminded me why I love cycling. Despite actually riding among snowy hills, it was a superb trip. More about it later on.

I opened the roadcycling season in Finland April 11th. Almost a month later than during the previous years.

I also managed to do some pre-work rides in April, when the temperatures rose just above 0 degrees.

The beginning of May was still chilly and wet, but then the weather turned 360 degrees, and all of a sudden Finland was the warmest country in whole of Europe, and we were greeted with some 30 degree days with plenty of sunshine.

First ride in short sleeves was May 9th.

I did my first +100 km ride (in Finland this year) May 10th. It was a superb day in the saddle!

I also had the opportunity to ride together with Sebu in May. Awesome ride in superb weather. Have to do this more often than once every 4 years!

My first ride to the Archipelago this year was May 27th. A beautiful day it was!

I also made a small timelapse from a route I've been taking (too) often this year. Kakskerta that is.

June was partly warm, but then we saw a change in the weather, and June so far has been chilly, especially compared to the warm May.

In June we got a new (Canyon) rider to Turku. Welcome Oskari!

I took a nice soaky ride on midsummer eve. What a great ride despite the rain!

On my latest ride, I finally found wild strawberries. This really means summer for me, it's kinda childish, but this really is a ritual for me. No summer without eating these during a ride.

So that's wrap! Let's see if I'm able to update the blog a bit more often. No promises..

Enjoy your summer folks!
